Level 1 Β· Free
A New Life in Leiden
Settle a household in a new city β work, money, and the community around you.
A free-to-start five-level adventure
Five short chapters, one household, one community, one voyage β build a life in Leiden, run a secret press, carry a message across the city, plan a departure, and pack a ship. Your choices carry through all five levels, and every one is built on real, cited Leiden history.
At a glance
Five household values β Money, Health, Trust, Safety and Supplies β carry through every level. Each level is its own small game built around a real moment in the Leiden congregation's history, always closing with a "What really happened?" section that separates the documented fact from the game on top of it.

You always play a fictional helper within the historical Leiden congregation β that role is a game device, and no choice you make rewrites what really happened to any real person. Real people, places and events appear only as background, clearly separated from game fiction in each level's own "What really happened?" section, built from the same cited archive sources used throughout this site. The knock at the door, the shadow at the window, the danger of discovery β these are game tension, not a re-enactment of a specific documented event. See the disclaimer for details.
Levels 2β5 will become available later. You can already play the complete first level for free β there's no need to wait, and no payment is being taken for anything on this page yet.

Runs in any modern desktop or mobile browser with JavaScript enabled β no app to install, no account for Level 1. Every level is fully playable with a mouse, with touch, or with a keyboard alone; every drag-based interaction has a click/tap-and-select alternative, so nothing requires drag-and-drop. Sound is never required. Timed moments respect your system's "reduce motion" setting by switching to a static, non-animated equivalent with no penalty, and Level 2 additionally offers its own in-game Relaxed mode, which extends or removes time pressure without changing what content you can reach.
The setting, the households, the press, and the voyage preparations are all grounded in real, documented Leiden history β the same sources cited elsewhere on this site. You always play a fictional helper, and every level closes with a "What really happened?" section that tells you exactly what's documented and what's been invented for the game.
