How it works

Understanding your badges

There are 27 badges to collect. Some are free, some cost a small amount. Here's exactly how it works.

What's free, and what costs money

Free: take the quiz, take the podcast quiz, vote in the family poll on the homepage, share your badges, or visit this site on 3 October. Each of these earns you one badge on the spot, at no cost.

€0.50 per record: every family page has archive records you can open. Opening one "Support with €0.50" instead of "FOR FREE" counts toward that family's badge, and toward that person's badge. Most family badges need three supported records; person badges need every record that exists for that person.

So the six family badges and fifteen person badges are earned by supporting records. The six "special" badges (quiz, podcast, poll, share, 3 October, and one more for existing Mayflower Society certificate holders) are always free.

Seeing your progress

Everything shows at /badges/. There's no login — your progress is simply remembered by your own browser, on this device. That also means it won't show up if you switch browsers or devices, and it disappears if you clear your browser's data.

Your Leiden Collector's Certificate

Collect all six family badges and the certificate becomes available. Making one with your name on it costs €5.

Something not right?

If you supported a record and the badge didn't show up, just get in touch with the site owner. She'll give you a one-time code that unlocks it directly — no need to redo anything. You'll find a "Redeem a code" box near the bottom of the badges page for that.
