There appeared before the undersigned aldermen of the city of Leiden, Alexander Prijs, camlet weaver, aged about fifty-three years, and Rogier Wit, grocer, aged about thirty-six years, who, having been lawfully sworn and examined under solemn oath, at the request of Jan Soet, dyer, testified and declared it to be true that the aforesaid petitioner is a resident of this city and a man of honour, who in his trade, conduct and dealings has shown himself to be none other than a man of honour ought and is bound to be, without the deponents ever having heard or understood that he was rumoured or reputed to have been involved in any evil deeds, offences or misdeeds, still less that he had ever been apprehended for any such thing.

The deponents gave as the ground of their knowledge that they have had good acquaintance and dealings with him for about two or three years within this city. So truly may Almighty God help them.

Done the 7th of July, sixteen hundred and twenty-five.
