Today, the 23rd day of June in the year sixteen hundred twelve, there appeared before me, Jacob Jansz Verwey, notary public admitted by the Court of Holland, residing in Leiden, and before the witnesses named below, Jan Willemszoon, book printer, living within the aforesaid city, as husband and guardian of Cathelina Jansdochter de Vos, heiress of Sijntgen Pieters de Lange, her late mother of blessed memory, who was born at Sint Cornelis Hoorbeecke in Flanders.
And he, in that capacity, has constituted and empowered, as he hereby constitutes and empowers, the aforenamed Cathelina de Vos, his wife, to travel in the name and on behalf of him, the constituent, to the aforesaid land of Flanders, and there, both at Sint Cornelis Hoorbeecke aforesaid and in other places, to trace and take possession of such inheritances and goods as may have devolved upon his said wife from her relatives; to let such goods, or, as she shall see fit, to sell them and to transfer and convey them in ownership to such person or persons and for such price as she shall deem advisable; to establish, enfeoff and vest the buyer or buyers therein and to divest, disinherit and dispossess him, the constituent, thereof; to promise warranty and guarantee, binding the constituent's goods therefor; to receive debt- and bond-instruments, as well as moneys, and to pass receipt and acquittance thereof; to compose, settle and come to terms in whatever disputes may arise from any matters, to submit these to arbitration and compromise, and to appeal to the pronouncement and award of good men and arbiters, or to have such awards reduced.
Further, if need be, to act and plead at law against anyone before all judges and courts, both as plaintiff and as defendant, to observe and pursue all days and terms of law, both substantive and incidental, to request judges to hear and pronounce judgment, to acquiesce therein and have it executed, or to appeal, provoke or have it reformed therefrom, as the matter shall require and as her good judgment shall dictate, pursuing matters of appeal to their conclusion; and further to do all that he, the constituent, being present himself, could and might do, and as shall be required according to the style, usage and custom of the places, with power to substitute one or more attorneys or other trustworthy persons with like or limited power in her place.
Promising to hold as good, firm, valid and unbreakable for ever all that shall be done, carried out and procured by the aforenamed wife and the person constituted, or her substitute, in the matter aforesaid and all that pertains thereto, under such obligation as is customary in law. Requesting an instrument hereof.
Thus done within Leiden, at the office of me, the notary, on the day and year as above, in the presence of Jaques de Cleyne, typesetter, and Hans Spoor, both residing within the aforesaid city, as credible witnesses required herein together with me, the notary.
Jan Willemsoone. Hans Spoors. J. de Cleene. In witness whereof, I, Jacob J. Verwey, substitute notary.
