There appeared before the undersigned aldermen of the city of Leiden, Anthony Clements, cotton weaver, aged about sixty years, Jaeques Fesy, likewise aged about sixty years, and Passchier Teunisz, serge weaver, aged about twenty-five years, all living within this city, who, having been lawfully sworn and examined under solemn oath, at the request of Jan Wytcom, likewise a cotton weaver, testified and declared it to be true that they have had good acquaintance and dealings with the aforesaid petitioner for a long time, during which time they found nothing in him but all honour and virtue, he having in his trade and conduct always behaved honestly and virtuously, without the deponents ever having heard or understood that he was rumoured or reputed to have committed any evil deeds, offences or misdeeds, still less that he had ever been apprehended for such, so that they hold him to be a man of honour and of good name and reputation. Testifying nothing further.
So truly may Almighty God help the deponents. Done the 19th of December, sixteen hundred and twenty-five.
