We, Symon Willemsz. van Kerchem and Dirck Lenaertsz. Keth, aldermen of Leiden, attest that before us appeared Marcus and Lieven van Torre, brothers, for themselves, and further the aforesaid Marcus van Torre alone, as holder of a special power of attorney from Wouter Vool, serge-worker, and Maeycken van Torre, his lawful wife, by virtue of the same power of attorney, executed before the aldermen and law-officers (cuerheeren) of the city and lordship of Hondschote on the 19th of June of this year sixteen hundred and thirty-seven, shown and read to us aldermen at the passing of this deed — in that capacity heirs of Anthonis van Torre, their deceased brother.

They declared that, in accordance with certain written conditions, they had publicly sold, and accordingly hereby transferred, to and for the benefit of Wouter Tucker, tobacco seller, a house and lot standing and situated within this city on the corner of the Korte Groenesteeg on the Uiterste Gracht, bounded on the one side, to the east, by the street of the aforesaid canal running underneath it, and on the other side, to the west, by Jan Cornelisz., warp-worker, and further behind, turning the corner past the house of Pieter Angillis and the house and lot of Lambert Pietersz. van der Vuyck, alongside the house of Pieter Christiaen, extending from the aforesaid alley in front to the rear against Abraham Lourisz. Baggerman — the aforesaid house and lot standing, built, used, and inhabited as it presently is, together with everything therein fixed by nature or by nail, belonging to the appearers in the aforesaid capacity.

Subject to a charge of two stuivers a year in ground rent, together with [the due concerning] the wood [this phrase is unclear in the original], received by the treasurer (rentmeester) of the St. Catharijnen Gasthuis within this city. Also subject to a sum of five hundred and ten guilders still owed from the previous purchase of this house, to be paid in instalments of one hundred and fifty guilders per year, the first falling due on May Day sixteen hundred and thirty-eight, to the heirs of Annetgen Pietersdr., who was the widow of Dirck Cornelisz., linen weaver, and otherwise free of any further charges.

Further subject to such conditions, exemptions, and warranties as are contained in the old original title deeds (waerbrieven), the most recent of which is dated the first of May sixteen hundred and thirty, which are hereby delivered to the buyer together with all rights and claims thereto.

The appearers further promised to free and warrant the aforesaid house and lot from all further encumbrances and charges that might have been placed upon it since the most recent sale, under general obligation of all the goods, present and future, of all the aforesaid co-parties, none excepted.

Finally, the appearers, in the aforesaid capacity, acknowledged themselves, on account of this sale and transfer, to be fully and entirely satisfied, paid, and content, the last penny with the first — namely (above the aforesaid charges) first with a sum of three hundred guilders in cash, and further with a bond of indebtedness (custingbrief), transferred by the aforesaid sellers and passed by the buyer and his sureties, in favour of Pieter Vergens the Elder, for a sum of one thousand and sixty-five guilders at 40 groot the piece, to be paid with ninety guilders on May Day sixteen hundred and forty-one, and thereafter in yearly instalments of one hundred and fifty guilders, the first on May Day sixteen hundred and forty-two.

In witness whereof this is confirmed with our seals, on the fourth of August of the year sixteen hundred and thirty-seven. Undersigned: S.V. Baersdorp, sealed.
