There appeared before the undersigned aldermen of the city of Leiden, Joos Coert, old shoemaker, aged about 36 years, and Willem de Coning, baize weaver, aged about 34 years, both living within this city, and they, having been duly sworn and examined under solemn oath, at the request of Marijtgen Willemsdochter, widow of Samuel Singeltom, testified and declared it to be true that they the deponents well know that the aforesaid Samuel Singeltom, the late husband of the aforesaid requester, departed this world about two months ago.
Both giving as their reason for knowledge that they the deponents (the aforesaid Coert having been a countryman of the aforesaid Singeltom, and the aforesaid de Coning having lived near him and kept good acquaintance and company with him during his, Singeltom's, lifetime) also attended his burial. Declaring nothing further, so truly might God Almighty help them the appearers. Done the seventh of August in the year sixteen hundred and twenty. J. van Gooten, 1620. A. van Teroede.
In the margin: done, paid six stuivers.

Note: the transcription itself dates this act to 7 August 1620 ('sevende Augusti anno XVIc ende twintich'), which does not match the record's stated date label of 7 August 1620 or its title's '7th of August 1620' — this discrepancy is in the source material, not introduced by the translator.
