Today, the thirteenth of January in the year sixteen hundred twenty-five, there appeared before me, Cornelis Dircxzoon van Grotelande, notary public admitted by the Court of Holland upon the nomination of the city of Leiden, and before the undersigned witnesses, Thomas Inman, tobacco seller, residing within Leiden.
He declared and acknowledged hereby that he is truly indebted to, and on behalf of, Sir Sandra Bruyn, tobacco merchant residing in Rotterdam, in the sum of one hundred and fifty guilders at forty groats the piece, arising from tobacco delivered to him, the appearer, to his full satisfaction. In reduction of the said debt the appearer has, as he hereby acknowledges, finally and absolutely sold, transferred, and delivered over the following movable goods, to wit:
In the front upper chamber: first, a buffet with a tapestry cushion lying upon it and a linen cloth sewn with appliqué work, together for 10 guilders; also a clothes-chest of wainscot oak with the desk-cloth lying upon it, together for 8 guilders; also a chest of wainscot oak with a leather-bound coffer and a wainscot armchair, together for 4 guilders; also two tapestry cushions for 6 guilders; a large gilded mirror for 2 guilders; also a bed with a bolster and a desk-blanket for 16 guilders.
In the rear upper chamber: a wainscot table for 8 guilders; a bed with a blanket for 10 guilders.
In the kitchen: a bed with a bolster and a blanket for 15 guilders; three small tables for 2 guilders 10 stuivers; six chairs for 1 guilder 16 stuivers; a copper pot for 4 guilders; two copper kettles for 4 guilders; a sleeping-bench for 1 guilder 10 stuivers; twelve pewter plates, large and small, for 12 guilders.
In the front hall/shop: the shop cabinet with the corner bench for 10 guilders; two rolls of tobacco for 16 guilders.
Linen: three pairs of bed-sheets, together for 8 guilders.
Together amounting to the sum of 138 guilders 10 stuivers.
And the appearer thereby declared and acknowledged that he retains no right of ownership nor possession in the aforesaid sold, transferred, and delivered goods, but has, on behalf of the aforesaid Sandra Bruyn, wholly and absolutely relinquished the same, and does so hereby, declaring that insofar as he may, after the date hereof, remain in custody and use of the aforesaid sold and transferred goods, this occurs only precariously, by sufferance, and revocable at the express will of the aforesaid Sandra Bruyn.
For this he, the appearer, binds his person and all his goods, movable and immovable, present and future, none excepted, submitting the same to the constraint and execution of all the lord's rights and courts of law, with recovery of the costs thereof; the aforesaid appearer consenting that one or more public instruments be drawn up and issued hereof by me, the notary, in the customary form.
Thus done within the city of Leiden, at the residence of the aforesaid Thomas Inman, situated on the south side of the Diefsteeg, in the presence of Pieter Janszoon van Leeuwen and Gerrit Janszoon Rijckaerts, clerk, as credible witnesses hereto required together with me, the notary. Signed: Thomas Inman; P. Jansoon van Leeuwen; G. Janszoon Rijckaerts; C. D. van Grotelande, notary public, 1625.
