We, Andries Jasperszoon van Vesaenevelt and Jacob Paets Corneliszoon, aldermen of Leiden, make known that before us came and appeared the worshipful lords Laurens Huygenszoon Gael, Jan Isnoutszoon van der Nesse, Pieter Arentszoon Deyman, and Henrick Egbertszoon van der Hal, burgomasters of this city, declaring how their predecessors in office had, in the year sixteen hundred and fourteen, sold [a certain plot], and that they, confirming the same sale, accordingly transferred hereby unto and for the benefit of Jan Allert, carpenter, a vacant plot of ground, four rods and six ell-feet in size altogether, marked, according to the chart D made thereof, with number 47, situated in the expansion of this city between the Mare and the Rijnsburgerpoort, on the east side of a certain newly dug canal situated there, bordering on the one side, to the north, on the parcel marked number 48, likewise bought by Lenaert Claeszoon, carter, and on the other side, to the south, in front, on the parcel marked number I, likewise bought by this buyer, from the parcel marked number II, running in front from the frontage of the aforesaid canal to the back as far as the parcel marked number 3, which has not yet been sold.

And this free of any charge, save that the buyer shall have to tolerate thereon a special mortgage of certain rents, from which they the appearing parties promised to free the buyer, either by redeeming the same or otherwise; further with the condition that the buyer shall, within the term of the next six years, build upon the aforesaid plot with proper construction, on pain that, should the aforesaid plot remain unbuilt after that time, the same shall, in such case, according to the bylaw of this city, upon anyone's request who shall wish to build there, be adjudged away from him by the aldermen.

And they, the appearing parties, promised accordingly, and thus with and under the aforesaid conditions, to warrant and free the aforesaid sold plot from all encumbrance and burden with which it might be charged or burdened, and that for a year and a day, and moreover forever, as is lawful and as one ought to warrant a free and unencumbered plot, under general obligation of all the goods, excises, and revenues of this city, none excepted.

Furthermore they, the appearing parties, acknowledged themselves, on account of the aforesaid sale and transfer, to be fully and entirely satisfied, paid, and content, the last penny with the first; and this by means of a rent-bond of eleven guilders of 40 groats each, eighteen stivers and seven pennies, free money, per year, falling due yearly on All Saints' Day, redeemable at the rate of one-sixteenth [i.e. at sixteen years' purchase]. In witness whereof this is confirmed with our seals, on the twenty-fifth of June in the year sixteen hundred and fifteen. Below was written: J. Swanenburch. Sealed, etc.
