Today, the 8th of March in the year 1622, there appeared before me, Jan van Heussen, notary public admitted by the Court of Holland (upon the nomination of the city of Leiden), together with the undersigned witnesses, Master Thomas Inman, English merchant residing within the aforesaid city of Leiden, and acknowledged hereby, for himself and his heirs, to be well and truly indebted to Hans de Voocht, merchant within the city of Amsterdam, or the bearer hereof, in the sum of one hundred Carolus guilders of forty groten the piece, arising from the purchase and delivery of a certain quantity of good tobacco, which he, the appearer, declared to have received to his full satisfaction.

He therefore promised, on his faith, honour and integrity, to satisfy and pay the aforementioned sum of one hundred guilders into the hands as aforesaid, in free and clear money and without any deduction whatsoever, in one single payment, within three months after the date hereof, precisely as exchange money; on penalty that, should he the appearer fail to do so, he shall then, as he likewise promised hereby, pay interest on the aforesaid sum at eight per cent until full satisfaction, binding thereto the person and goods of him the appearer, present and future, none excepted, to the constraint and execution of all rights and courts, with recovery of costs.

He requested that a proper instrument in due form be drawn up and issued hereof by me, the notary. Thus done and passed within the city of Leiden, at the office of me, the notary, on the day and year as above, in the presence of Daniel Delingh, broker of the aforesaid transaction, and Chaerles Van der Woert, clerk, as trustworthy witnesses hereto requested and called together with me, the notary. Thomas Inman. As witnesses: Daniel Deelynck, Chaerles van der Woert. J. van Heussen, notary.
